I am speechless about the idea of putting music fans in jail for downloading music. It is wrong to illegally download, but the answer cannot be jail. We should look to new technologies like Apple's new Music Store for solutions. It is the fans that drive the success of the music business.

Michael Jackson

biography controversy

Michael Jackson has been for years, probably the most controversial artist.

Jackson was accused of child sexual abuse by a 13-year-old boy named Jordan Chandler. Evan Chandler (father of Jordan Chandler) and Jackson, represented by their legal teams, then engaged in unsuccessful negotiations to resolve the issue in a financial settlement; the negotiations were initiated by Chandler but Jackson did make several counter offers. On January 1, 1994, Jackson settled with the Chandler family and their legal team out of court, in a civil lawsuit for $20 million. After the settlement Jordan Chandler stopped co-operating with police regarding criminal proceedings. Jackson was never charged, and the state closed its criminal investigation, citing lack of evidence.

In 2003, Jackson was charged with seven counts of child sexual abuse and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent in order to commit that felony. All charges involved Gavin Arvizo, who was under 14 at the time of the alleged crimes. Jackson denied the sexual abuse allegations. The charges are similar to those of 1993. They come exactly on the day of launching the album "Number Ones". On behalf of Michael Jackson was released at the time a warrant. But Jackson came voluntarily to police headquarters from Santa Barbara.

The People v. Jackson trial (2005) began in Santa Maria, California, two years after Jackson was originally charged. The trial lasted five months, until the end of May 2005, he was acquitted on all counts.
